The Royal 30 April 2013

Carl XVI Gustav (King of Sweden) celebrates his 67th birthday at the same time as ...

Carl XVI Gustav
Queen Beatrix of the Netherlands (age 75) abdicated in favor of her son ...

Beatrix; Queen 30 April 1980 - 30 April 1213
Willem-Alexander of the Netherlands (age 46) who was crowned King of the Netherlands the same day.
He is now the first king to ascend the throne in 122 years. Why? It is an interesting story:

William III
King William III died 1890 (age 73) and as his three sons had died befour him it was his youngest child, princess Wilhelmina, then only 10 years old who officially succeeded him.

Wilhelmina
Wilhelmina herself, who at the time had recently become 68 years old, abdicated in favor of her only child Juliana in 1948 after nearly 58 years as queen.

Juliana
When Juliana celebrated her 71th birthday she also abdicated in favor of the oldest of her daughters, Beatrix.

Beatrix
Beatrix herself, like her mother and grandmother, abdicated in the end at the age of 75 in favour of her oldest son, the now king Willem-Alexander who now is the youngest monarch in Europe.

Willem-Alexander as king
Will he one day follow the women in his family's footsteps and abdicate in around 30 years of time in favour of his daughter?

Mission: Impossible II (2000)

Summary: Agent Ethan Hunt hunts (yes, I do love this pun) a former member of the IMF who has stolen a new deadly virus called Chimera and its cure Bellerophon. However, with an enemy that knows how Ethan works and how he executes his missions it will be an easy feat.

Vacation mode, just be lazy and climb some cliffs
Vacation mode over, back to business
Ah, the American James Bond ... nothing more needed to be said. The recruitment of a female thief (and the ex-girlfriend to the bad guy) which he does it in true James Bond style by seducing her. And of course, MIF, the only ones who deliver a message in the form of exploding sunglasses concealed in a rocket ... something I actually belive that Q or Bond would have liked to do. A little more acrobatics with ninja like moves and less suits than Bond but still, the explosions, the girl and the odd inventions ... it all was there.

Look, I am Spider-Man!
It was a littel bit to predictable in some cases which made it boring from time to time. How will Ethan enter a tall building with a large airwnet construction? By the classic "rope-jumping" ofcourse. And Ethan did some extreem climbing as usual. Not to mention that final part of the mission involving saving the day in a race against time, it took forever! Sure, he had a time limit of 20 hours but still...

"Hello Clarice ... oh, Ethan, my bad"
On a final note: It is said that you learn something new everytime, or was it everyday? Anyhow, I did learn something new. It actually pulled in the corners of the mouth when I saw Anthony Hopkins, aka Hannibal Lecter, as "Mission Commander Swanbeck". A small part in the movie but it made my day.

Life of Pi (2012)

Summary: An adult Piscine Molitor Patel, otherwise known as Pi, tells an novelist about his adventure as a young man when he was in a shipwreck and had to share the lifeboat with an Bengal tiger named Richard Parker.

Pi

Richard Parker
This movie is filled with comical scenes, like the ones between Pi and Richard Parker or when it is showed that Pi as a young boy and raised Hindu also sort of converted to islam and christianity and also as an adult teatches Kabbalah, but also those completely unexplained, like the island they arives to or if what Pi sometimes sees are his dreams or hallucinations (not even Pi was sure). I found similarites to Robinson Crouse which I liked, but if it had been a bit less supernatural and fantasy it had become more like Robinson Crouse but with a tiger, some thing that I would have liked more.

The movie was also really slow and long which made it actually boring. The one thing that actually sort of saved the movie a lkittel bit was that in the end Pi was telling an other story, one where the animals in the lifeboat was replaced with actual humans and he himself was the tiger.
That gave the movie an whole new perspective if you replaces the tiger with him. Did the trauma force him to change the story in his mind to cope with what had happened? Had his family actually a tiger in their zoo that he compared himself to? And, if so ... symbolizes the battel between Pi and Richard Parker the battel between himself?
